Joshua 3: 15-17
Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho”
So, God decides to lead his people forward in what in the natural scheme of things is the worst of times. The Jordan is at it highest point. In recent years we have seen often on the TV news rivers in flood and the water is up and over the banks.
Why would God choose the worse of times to lead his people across the Jordan? The truth is God is not limited by what limits us. We need to grasp this principle, Abraham in his conversation with Sarah about conceiving a child in her old age says, "Is anything too hard for the Lord?"
God is not limited by time, situation or anything else. Jeremiah declares in Chapter 32:17
“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you”
As the children of Israel took a step of faith the miracle began, but notice it wasn’t instantly visible. God started to stop the water up stream. God often does things behind our back or out of our sight to begin with. We have to take Him at His word and step forward in faith.
